This 6 lobed Antique Native Beaded pin cushion is the oldest of the ones I have posted. c1880-1890 is my guess. It has been well used over the years as the worn and faded velvet proves. The style is somewhat different from most of the Iroquois bead work I see in my travels. I plan to research this further. Note the masses of clear beads covering this beauty. None of the ones decorating the top needed replacing, just the edge needed attention. The central flower looks like a calla lily but probably isn't. There were some thin splits to the velvet and a large one to the polished cotton backing. I applied Textile glue to those areas. The cushion is stuffed with some kind of old cotton batten rather than saw dust. When displayed in a certain kind of light this fine cushion sparkles like a jewel. 9 3/4" across (24.8 cm).
