Deep in thought. Or perhaps bored by the tedious photographing process of the day. The young man's portrait was taken c1880-1890. Men's fashion didn't change much for decades, still hasn't, but the fact that it is an albumen photographic print dates it from that era or even earlier. He's wearing a vest, a large bow tie and is holding a top hat, all typical of the attire of the well to do of that time. The hand-tinting is as bright as the day it was applied. The frame dates from the 1950s to judge by the framer's phone number. Someone cared enough to have this handsome young man reside in such a lovely oval with gilded inner surround.
