This c1890-1900 Odd Fellows helmet is a cross between the Prussian Pickelhaube (spike helmet) and a knight's headgear. part of the huge variety of costumes this Fraternity used in their rituals. The brass spike rising from the circular arrangement of brass oak leaves snaps on or off by rotating it. The visor attached to the brass buttons is fixed, not movable. Note the neck guard. The inner head band is oil cloth. There would have been a lining or light padding which has been lost over time. The helmet's chocolate brown color is really rust. It has been gently cleaned. There are a few bruises to the 2 back panels. Nothing major. Total height 10 3/4" x 10" wide.
