What a find!! This enormous antique silver plated tri-handled trophy cup was never awarded by the famous whisky producers (think Canadian Club & Crown Royal) to a winning team. Its engraving above and below the the picturesque Lawn Bowling Scene reads as follows:
"The Seagram Trophy by Jos. Seagram and Sons Ltd. For Annual Competition".
The scene shows 3 bowlers going at it in front of a large club house. The trophy stands on a large wooden black lacquered base making for a very heavy antique trophy cup! In fabulous condition! No loss to the plating whatsoever. No scratches or dents. 21 1/2" high to the top of the handles including the plinth. (54.6 cm) by 13 1/2" wide from handle to handle (34.3 cm). The bowl which would make a great Jardinière measures 10 3/4" across (25.5 cm).
There is a photo in the Waterloo Public Library showing the 1909 winners of the Seagram Cup for lawn bowling. It is the only reference I have found online. The trophy pictured in it is of a different but no less fancy design.
