This is a classic Tibetan flint bag, probably for a gentleman and for more ceremonial occasions. Flint and a steel was an essential requirement for lighting a fire. These classic waist-hung flint bags were part of every day or special occasion costume. This one, of classic size, is constructed from leather with the curved steel at the bottom and is enhanced with pierced brass panels front and back, and it has a copper loop for hanging at the top. Inside is the original leather lining and pocket which would have held the flint. This has a simple hook and cut-out of the frame for closure. The age of such pieces is indeterminate as they were used over a very long period of time. The condition is very good for age although the leather has significantly hardened over the years, and there is some staining of the brass. This is a very good example of a typical waist-hung Tibetan flint bag with steel and it would be of interest within a collection of Oriental pieces and fashion accessories. Maximum width 5 ins (12.6cm). Weight 210 grams. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $32.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper.
