This early New England tole tea canister (not a caddy), c1890, is from the rarely seen Kaufman Collection. It features red cherries with green leaves on a black background, highlighted with a deep mustard-coloured border, and with further mustard accents. For reference, see Coffin's 'American Country Tinware, 1700-1900'. In very good condition for age, with some wear. There are paint losses and crackling present. Diameter 4.25 ins x height 8 ins. (Height 22.8cm). This item can be seen in the book, "Antique Boxes - Inside and Out", on page 120.
