This magnificent sepia cabinet card depicts a beautiful young woman wearing a bustled, lace-trimmed gown with long train. She has been photographed against the background of a painted garden scene with her hand resting on a pillar to complete the three-dimensional effect. This is a lovely image of a poised and elegant woman wearing a stunning gown enhanced by a slide guard chain draped to a watch hidden from view in a watch pocket. Photographer: “Artistic Photographer Morse, Palace of Art, Montgomery Street. San Francisco, Cal”, c1875-1880. Width 4.25 ins x 6.5 ins. (10.5cm x 16.5cm). This is in excellent condition apart from tiny spots at the lower edge of the card. This item can be seen in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 110. Please note that a gown of similar trained style acquired from the collection of the renowned Doris Langley Moore is currently listed in my shop.
