This is a most attractive gilt metal fob. The term "fob" has often been used for many varieties of vest chain but this is a genuine late 19th century fob chain. The top section has an adjustable clip for securely attaching the chain to a vest and a short chain with swivel for the watch and the watch would have been held within a vest pocket. The decorative section of the fob chain is of rows of long links joined with shorter more decorative links. These are attached at the bottom to an intermediate pierced section of the chain which has a ring at the bottom for a seal which is currently not engraved. The condition of the complete item is very good for age and this would be a lovely example to add to a collection of watch chains or to wear to make a most dashing statement. Length of decorative chain 4.75 ins (12cm). Weight 20 grams. This item appears in my book “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 177. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $30.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
