This is a very attractive early Victorian guard chain with slide (decorated with a band of tiny turquoises). The swivel is of interest and suggests the earlier date as it has a clenched hand at the top holding a movable swivel unit – the actual swivel is of the style where it is screwed up to open the swivel and then screwed down again to secure the item being attached. The chain itself is of fine links. There is one area of possible repair or loss of the original linkage but this does not detract, otherwise the condition is very good for age. This chain would look most attractive with an appropriate pendant attached to the swivel and is long enough to go at least twice around the neck. Chain tests as 14 carat , slide & hand test as 10 carat. Length without hand & swivel 53 ins (134.6cm). Weight 22 grams.
