Currently on Ruby Lane we have listed a collection of miniature watch accessories suitable for a fashion doll – some for a girl doll and a couple for a boy. They were collected to illustrate the universal use of a watch as a fashion statement and concentrate on the varieties of styles for wearing a watch. Most are vintage re-creations and a couple are from an earlier age. Any would be a desirable addition to any lovely doll. This example is fashioned in the form of a miniature watch and fob. It is housed in a celluloid cream-coloured box which is possibly original and this is marked for D.H. Keene Jeweler and Diamond Merchant cnr. Main and Ninth Sts, Fort Worth, Texas. The piece itself consists of a tiny faux gilt metal watch with decorative back. The dial has a glass cover and is of off-white with clear black Roman numerals. The hands are raised (not painted) and join in the middle with a black cap nut. The bow currently is attached to the fob with some gold coloured thread which would need reinforcing. The fob is intricately formed from flexible links and has a ring at each end. In the box it is held with a recent black-topped, bent pin. The condition is very good for age – the box being excellent. The gilding on the watch and fob shows some rubbing on the bow and on some of the rings of the fob. This would make a most stylish addition for an exclusive, rare or special boy or gentleman doll with a little attention to the connection of the watch to the fob and the fob to the outfit. Length of box 4 ins (10.1cm). Length of watch & fob 2.5 ins (6.4cm). Combined weight 62 grams.
