Currently on Ruby Lane we have listed a collection of miniature watch accessories suitable for a fashion doll – some for a girl doll and a couple for a boy. They were collected to illustrate the universal use of a watch as a fashion statement and concentrate on the varieties of styles for wearing a watch. Most are vintage re-creations and a couple are from an earlier age. Any would be a desirable addition to any lovely doll. This example is fashioned in the form of a small brooch watch to wear on the bodice of a girl doll. The plaque is of cut-out gilt metal with a central carved cream plastic rose and has a nice clip at the back to attach to a garment. The small watch has the same decorative surround and a glass-covered dial which has clear black painted numerals and painted hands. It also has the words QUARTZ at the top and Paris at the bottom. The back of the watch is in the same perforated gilt metal. The condition is very good for age and this piece would make a beautiful addition to the outfit of a fashion doll. Maximum length 1.74 ins (4.4cm). Total diameter of watch 0.8 ins (2.2cm). Weight 2 grams. This item appears in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 210.
