Currently on Ruby Lane we have listed a collection of miniature watch accessories suitable for a fashion doll – some for a girl doll and a couple for a boy. They were collected to illustrate the universal use of a watch as a fashion statement and concentrate on the varieties of styles for wearing a watch. Most are vintage re-creations and a couple are from an earlier age. Any would be a desirable addition to any lovely doll. This example is fashioned in the form of a pocket watch with face and back of mother of pearl and surround and bow of silver. There was never any mechanism. The face is enhanced with black numerals surrounded with a circle of small black dots. There are two hands held with a central small black cap nut. The dial has a glass cover and is also marked DEPOSÉ. The condition is very good for age with just some minimal staining on the left hand side of the glass and the hand complex seems slightly movable. This would be a lovely addition to a doll or could even be worn hanging from a small watch hook and used as a brooch for a person. Diameter of watch 0.75 ins (2cm). Weight 4 grams. This item appears in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 210.
