This elaborate brooch watch has a beautiful and intricate bow with secure pin closure and suspends an articulated swinging marcasite encrusted section to hold the ball watch. The watch itself is encircled with bands of shining marcasite. The cream dial has silver markers for the minutes and is marked for Bucherer with their trademark above and below it states 17 Jewels and Swiss Made. The back of the brooch is marked 800 (therefore Continental silver) and CB (presumably for Charles Bucherer). The condition of this piece is excellent for age and the watch is currently working. This brooch watch would be most elegant to wear and is particularly special with its articulated component which makes it easier to lift the watch to view the time. Width of brooch 1.75 ins (4.4cm). Total length with watch 2.6 ins (6.7cm). Diameter of watch 0.75 ins (1.7cm). Weight 20 grams. This item appears in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 190.
