These are two fascinating items of tobacciana. The first is a cigar piercer and cutter in the form of a short pair of scissors with a metal spur for piercing the surface of the cigar. The second is a pipe tamper – the handle in the form of a hand holding a tiny pipe. The tamper section at the other end, which has some engraving, could also be used as a seal. They are both of grey metal and do not appear to attract a magnet. The condition of both items is good for age. Although cigar and pipe smoking is now less popular than before, these are still intriguing examples related to this pastime. Length of cigar cutter 2.5 ins (6.4cm). Combined weight 48 grams. These items appear in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 167.
