This lovely Civil War-era two-piece gown is at its most spectacular when worn over a crinoline cage. The bronze skirt is highlighted with chocolate brown velvet detailing and the bodice with copper-coloured silk piping, fringing and buttons. There is a watch pocket near the waistband of the skirt. In excellent condition apart from a few small tears (see images). This gown is shorter than average so may well have been worn by a child. The jewelry added in one of the images is not included with the gown. This item can be seen the book, “How the Watch Was Worn – a Fashion for 500 Years” on page 76.
