This lovely Civil War-era two-piece gown is at its most spectacular when worn over a crinoline cage. The bronze skirt is highlighted with chocolate brown velvet detailing and the bodice with copper-coloured silk piping, fringing and buttons. There is a watch pocket near the waistband of the skirt. In excellent condition apart from a few small tears (see images). This gown is shorter than average so may well have been worn by a child. The jewelry added in one of the images is not included with the gown. Please note that this lovely item has been in storage, so once shipped it may still retain a whiff of mothballs. This should settle with airing. This item can be seen the book, “How the Watch Was Worn – a Fashion for 500 Years” on page 76.
