In the days without electricity, the night could be a frightening time. A candle could dispel the gloom. This is a particularly emotive candle with the apt name of ‘Burglar’s Horror’. It is a squat candle with tapered top and has the label Clarke’s “Pyramid” and “Pyramid” as the trademark. It is also registered in the US Patent Office and there is further statement N.B. - NO WATER Required. Although this piece does not appear to be used, the wick is not visible and there are some nibbles of the label and some staining. Despite this, this is a most intriguing and fascinating item of the pre-electricity era. Similar candles were used as a component of night lights (please see our listing for a box of night lights – also Clarke’s Pyramid). Height 2.25 ins (5.6cm), diameter 1.5 ins (3.7cm). Weight 48 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 76.
