These original documents include five on thin ‘US Military Telegraph’ paper and one on slightly thicker ‘Office Chief Quartermaster, Department of the Cumberland’ document of similar size. They date from 1864 to 1865 and four of the six are from Chattanooga (Tennessee). They are all in the elaborate cursive writing of the era (which is not easy to read), and one is fairly faded. The theme of the letters varies from general business to descriptions of some military supplies. Four of the documents have an address on the back - if there is writing on both sides of the document this appears in the image. The condition is very good for age and the fragility of the medium. These appear to be a quite rare survivor and a documentation of this turbulent time in American history. Maximum length 8.5 ins (21.5cm) x width 5.25 ins (13.2cm). Combined weight 12 grams. These items appear in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 206.
