This is a lovely survivor of a typical miniature hand sewing machine for the budding child seamstress. The box has a delightful lithograph on the lid with mother sitting at an adult-size machine with a little girl with her teddy bear watching intently. Inside the box is the original sewing machine, the clamp for attachment to a table and the original instruction leaflet. The machine appears to be complete. The condition is very good for age although the edges of the paper-covered card box have areas of loss and the actual machine would require a cleaning and oiling if it was to be used. It is lovely that this has all stayed together and it would be a great addition to a collection of sewing machines, needlework tools and antiques for children. Box measures 6.5 ins (16.4cm) x 6.5 ins (16.4cm) x 4 ins (10cm). Weight 466 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 334.
