This is an interesting treen item that consists of a table clamp with complex thread or yarn winder above. There are four arms that are made of six lattice-type sections which can be pulled out to accommodate different bits of a skein of yarn. There is a key at the top which appears to be used to adjust the extension of the arms and the whole of this section swivels on the lower clamp and central spindle. The condition appears very good for age. The lattice section is of paler timber but other examples have been seen to have the two sections of a different colour so this may still be original. This would be an unusual and intriguing piece to add to a collection of treen or antique needlework tools. It was acquired some time ago from the renowned expert on needlework tools, Nerylla Taunton. Height 11 ins (28cm). Un-extended width 3.25 ins (8.2cm). Weight 162 grams.
