This is a most appealing early pin cushion, c1815, which is held at the top of a screw-in cut steel clamp. The pin cushion is of original pink velvet edged with a decorative border of curled gilt braid. The steel is of a simple but elegant design. This would have been attached to a table either for easy access to pins or for attaching delicate fabric to the pin cushion whilst hemming. The condition is very good for age with some fading but minimal loss of the velvet and the steel has some slight tarnish consistent with age. This is another variety of table clamp for sewing tools from a collection currently on this site. It was acquired some time ago from the renowned expert on needlework tools, Nerylla Taunton. Length 5.5 ins (14cm) x width 2 ins (5cm). Weight 76 grams.
