This is a charming Chinese double purse edged with wide blue satin stitch on each side. These frame panels of deep cream silk which are further embroidered with figures and symbols, including a moth, and flower motifs. The front and back have opening flaps to a purse and between the two purses is another storage space. A deep olive green tassel is attached to a braid which passes through the top of each purse and this is enhanced with lavender braid beads. The condition is good for age although the cord has been repaired in one spot. This could have been worn on a belt or possibly carried in the hand. This is a very pleasing example of Chinese embroidery and would add to a collection of similar items. 4.75 ins (12cm) x 4.5 ins (11.5cm). Weight 42 grams.
