This charming small box is six-sided with larger top and bottom. On one of the larger surfaces it has an auspicious embroidered symbol for longevity with five surrounding bats. The six small side sections are embroidered with multiple motifs. The opening is quite intriguing as it consists of six interlocking fabric and cardboard flaps. It can be quite a challenge working out how to close it correctly! When opened there is a pink lining which is somewhat distressed. The exterior is in good condition for age although there is some lack of strength at one or two of the flaps. This would be a very nice addition to a collection of small Chinese embroideries. Diameter 2.5 ins (6.3cm) x height 0.8 ins (2cm). Weight 14 grams. This item appears in my book, "Antique Boxes, Inside and Out" on page 63.
