This is a fascinating pair of Tibetan fashion accessories hiding a most practical usage. Each consists of a decorative pouch of leather adorned with patterned heavy fabric and edged with rows of braid. At the top of both pouches is a deep red cord for attachment at the waist. Both have gold braid passing down to a pair of silver rings on either side of a Buddhist “endless knot”. On the purse-shaped item, this suspends a firm red centre with pale green tassels which on inspection shows its nature as a pincushion. When the top section is slid open on the red cord, it then reveals the opening to the purse. The other hanging has an unusually shaped upper section with similar decoration which suspends another apparent pincushion covered with thick deep blue fringe. When the top section is slid up on its cord, it reveals a small needle case (see arrow in image). The condition is very good for age but it does show some wear as a result of age and use. This is an absolutely intriguing item for the collector of unusual fashion accessories, Tibetan pieces or for those interested in most unusual holders for needlework tools. This pair of hangings would equate to a variety of Oriental chatelaine. Item with blue tassel maximum length 28 ins (71cm). Item with green tassel maximum length 22 ins (56cm). Combined weight 206 grams.
