This is a really lovely stiletto which would have been used for punching holes in fabric for exquisite embroidery. The handle is stated to be silver gilt and is decorated with little flowers. On it is the boar’s head mark for France after 1838 for small items of .800 silver. It is very similar in style to items used in boxes of the Palais Royal variety and this would have come from a prestigious needlework box or set. Even the steel is exquisitely cut at the top in a shining diamond pattern. The piece is in excellent condition for age and would be a lovely addition to any collection of special antique needlework tools or to place in a desirable needlework box. It would be a delightful partner to a compatible silk winder which is currently listed on this site. Length 3.5 ins (8.8cm). Weight 6 grams.
