This charming taupe-coloured purse has been skillfully created from intricate crochet. It has an integral handle and the centre of this has threaded deep turquoise velvet ribbon. It could be carried at the wrist or from the waist with a belt passed through the wide loop. If worn in this latter manner, it could be considered a chatelaine purse or may even have been used to house a watch on a guard chain. The condition is very good for age and it would add to a collection of hand-crafted purses. Total length 8.75 ins (22.2cm), width 4 ins (10cm). Weight 14 grams. This item appears in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, a Fashion for 500 Years” on page 220.
