Late 18th Century Agate & Silver Perfume Bottle for a Chatelaine
This stylish perfume bottle has been created from decorative banded brown and cream agate with a silver top and additional silver band around the actual bottle, and an edge of fine band of silver around the sides and bottom of the bottle. The top has a hinged lid and inside the neck of the bottle is the residue of a cork stopper. At the back under the hinge is a small ring which currently holds a large gilt ring which could be used to attach this piece to a chatelaine (equipage). The bottle is in very good condition for age with only a few small indentations on the silver. This would be a particularly nice example to add to a collection of perfume bottles or to place on an 18th century chatelaine or to display in your collection of objet de vertu. Length 2.25 ins (5.6cm). Weight 18 grams. This item appears in my book, “Chatelaines, Utility to Glorious Extravagance” on page 143.
