This is a most interesting buckle of Satsuma (marked on the back with the cross within a circle, for Satsuma) featuring six Geisha ladies with gilt accents and gilt border. On the back is a metal frame with a soldered pin for attaching fabric and a wide metal hook that would have originally held the ring at the end of a belt securely. This piece dates to the late Victorian Meiji period (late 19th century–early 20th century). The back has slight tarnish but the condition of the buckle is very good for age. This would be a great addition to a collection of Satsuma or of fashion accessories, particularly those from Japan. Diameter 1.75 ins (4.5cm). Weight 28 grams.
