This is a pleasant smaller boxed set of needlework tools contained within a black leatherette case which is lined with deep blue silk for the lid and navy velvet for the tools. The set includes a penknife, scissors, bodkin, stiletto and crochet hook. The handles of three of the tools are of mother of pearl and the remainder is of steel. The actual box and the mother of pearl are in very good condition but the steel sections show a slight amount of rust. The scissors cut nicely to the tip. The stiletto has a slightly bent tip. It is appealing to find small sets such as this that were necessary for our ancestors to create their lovely pieces of needlework. Box measures 5.25 ins (13.3cm) x 2.75 ins (7cm). Weight 114 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 540.
