Delightful Collection of Five Watch Protectors, Ottoman/Turkish Empire, Beaded & Crochet
This is a fascinating collection of small pocketwatch covers that were said to be used to protect the watch whilst it was held in the pocket. Three are of crochet – one is crochet and has the addition of tiny beads, and one is fully beaded. The central example appears to be of a later date and came from the Turkish era whereas the others may have been created when this was still the Ottoman Empire. The condition of all five items is very good for age, and these would add to any collection of handcrafts, needlework or watch-related items. Please note that the watch shown in some images is not included. Maximum width & height of central example 2.5 ins (6.4cm) Total weight 40 grams. These items appear in my book, “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years” on page 221.
