This is a beautiful example of a classic intricately carved Norwegian tine/tina box. It is of slightly stained pale oval turned wood with the typical winged catches which feature acanthus carving. The lid has a broad bentwood handle and when one wing is stressed, the beautifully proportioned lid can then be removed to show the perfect turned interior. The sides and top also feature beautiful acanthus carving. This piece is in excellent condition for age and if the lid is attached in the correct orientation, it is secure for lifting from the handle. This is a stunning piece of quality Scandinavian/Norwegian folk art and would grace any collection. Length 8 ins (20cm) x height 5 ins (13cm) x depth 3.75 ins (9.5cm). Weight 248 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 65.
