This is an unusually small sized but charming wall hanging pipe holder/box of lollipop-form. It has an eccentric hole through which a hook could be passed for this to hang from a wall. The main section has four delicately curved treen turned hooks on each side which would have held probably clay pipes in a horizontal position. Beneath this is a small drawer with a brass knob. The base has chamfered edges at the sides and front for a little extra detail. It is most likely that this piece is of cherrywood and is a nice piece of Americana. The condition is good for age with a few small areas of loss on the back and on one of the notches at the front but these do not show when displayed. This piece would be significantly enhanced by the three complete clay pipes that we currently have listed on Ruby Lane. Total height 9.75 ins (24.7cm), maximum width 4.5 ins (11.4cm). Weight 136 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 169.
