This is a most attractive Oriental spectacle case in pale aqua silk decorated with appliqué of what appear to be pink lotus flowers. At each end the case has a dark brown cord, one of which has a similarly coloured bead. The top third of the case can be lifted on the top cord and reveals a pair of early small, flexible gold spectacles (tests for 14 carat) which have a very strong magnification. The glasses are in good condition. The case has some slight scattered loss but is in very good condition for age. This would be a lovely and unusual addition to a collection of Oriental waist-hung items or spectacles and spectacles cases. Length of fabric case 6 ins. (15.2cm). Weight 42 grams. This item appears in my book, “Chatelaines, Utility to Glorious Extravagance” on page 175. Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $35.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper.
