This is a truly special and magic example of quality folk art. It is a small trinket box decorated in a style often used for classic Pennsylvania brides' boxes with tulips around the sides. The design portrays Mary and the Christ child flanked by three angel heads. The inside of the lid and the base has Germanic inscriptions including the date '14 Oktober 1834'- see images. Provenance - Martha & Bernard Harter Collection. This box would enhance any folk art collection. Diameter 4 ins (10cm), depth 2.5 ins (6.5cm). Weight 114 grams. In very good condition with very minimal wear. A tight age line in the lid does not detract (see image). The paint is still quite vibrant. This item can be seen in the book, "Antique Boxes - Inside and Out", on page 64.
