This is an exquisite watch created as a piece of stylish jewellery. It is a pendant watch with matching swivel and chain. It is of 18 carat gold and clear blue enamel. On the watch the gold is engine-turned with overlaying blue enamel and it is enhanced with floral and swag gold decoration with a raised central frame, also of gold (with small areas of gilding passing onto the enamel – very tiny sections of this may have worn away). A fine white enamel border surrounds the blue. The watch face has a high quality white enamel dial with gold pointers, gold minute dots and Arabic hour chapters as well as a seconds hand dial. The movement has been stated to have a lever escapement and fifteen ruby jewels. The matching chain has a beautiful swivel with a fine gold frame around the blue enamel and the chain consists of alternating sections of fine gold with cylindrical sections of blue enamel edged with white. It has a simple typical secure gold ring clasp for the back of the neck. This item is not only a beautiful piece of jewellery but also a most decorative way of wearing a high quality watch. The watch is in working order and the gold and enamel is near pristine. Diameter of watch 1 ins (2.5cm). Chain without swivel measures 20 ins. (51cm). Total weight 32 grams. This item can be seen in the book, "How the Watch was Worn - A Fashion for 500 Years", on page 131.
