This is a lovely watch-form locket which tests as 14 carat gold, decorated on both sides with detailed foliate engraving. It has a monogram which appears to be ‘J.M.H’. When opened, it contains a glass-covered feature of intricate hair which would have been that of a living or departed loved one. As it is in watch-form, it could be considered a fausse montre and would sit very nicely on the swivel of a gold chain for wearing. The entire piece is in excellent condition for age. Total height including bow 2 ins (5cm), diameter 1.25 ins (3.2cm). Weight 16 grams. This item was featured in my books “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” and “How the Watch was Worn, A Fashion for 500 Years”.
