This is a delightful tea canister/caddy understood to be Indian silverplate (it is unmarked). It is decorated with an intricate foliate design. It has a matching lift-off cap which can be removed to reveal the interior. There appears to be slight gapping of the base to the main body of the canister/caddy which is only obvious when one looks from the inside. Otherwise the item is in very good condition for age. This style should be considered as a canister but in common usage these are often called a tea caddy. This would be an attractive addition to a collection of tea, Oriental or silver items. Maximum height 4.75 ins (12cm), width 3.25 ins (8.2cm). Weight 180 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 98.
