This beautiful box is completely covered with lithographed paper depicting a guard house in a rural scene on the top and scrolling flowering vines on the sides. The inside is lined with yellow paper and there is evidence that there was originally a series of partitions. Inside the lid is an interesting engraving labelled 'Bazaar, Soho Square' depicting the inside of a shop, showing merchandise that appears to be jewellery, boxes and haberdashery, as well as sales personnel and customers. Across the beam of the roof is the notice, 'Observe no abatement can be made from the ready money pre-affixed' (which is a subtle way of saying 'no haggling' or 'no bartering'). Condition: Very good for age, missing internal compartments. Length 7.25 ins (18.5cm), width 9.75 ins (25cm), depth 3.35 ins (8.5cm). Weight 324 grams. This item can be seen in the book, "Antique Boxes - Inside and Out", on page 238.
