This is a most attractive purse with chain – the frame is decorated with pearl and gilt beads as is the clasp opener. The purse itself is of deep cream satin and embroidered in multiple varieties of stitches and on one side there is the figure of a lady wearing a kimono. The other decoration is of stylized flower sprays with gilt leaves and further gilt features. The interior is also lined with a deep cream satin and has two pockets with gilt braid edging. The clasp opens and closes in a secure fashion. The condition is good for age (early 20th century) with some minimal staining of the interior and a tiny area of fraying on the front. There appears to be no maker’s mark. This would be a most decorative item to use for evening wear or display. Maximum width 9 ins (23cm), height without chain 5.75 ins (14.5cm). Weight 176 grams.
