This is an intricately and finely beaded purse with amazingly tiny beads in metallic blue and gilt colour with a band at the top of silver coloured beads enhanced with stylized figures. At the bottom is a fine tassel of matching beads and the drawstring is of beads lined with silk tape which threads through the top of the purse. It is lined with the palest aqua silk and hand-stitched in position. In general the beadwork is in very good condition for age apart from one area at the join where it has come loose with some slight loss of beads (a skilled needle woman may be able to tack these largely back into position). This is a lovely example of the small purse or reticule carried during the Victorian era. Width 4.75 ins (12cm), length including fringe 6.5 ins (16.5cm). Weight 96 grams.
