This carte de visite features a young lady wearing a wide belt with a large buckle. Draped across her body is a plaited hair vest chain. The chain has a snake-form large hook which could be passed through a buttonhole or around a button. The tax stamp on the back dates this image to 1864-1866. Photographer, Phillips & Frear, Jamestown, N.Y. The vest chain she is wearing is similar to three that are currently for sale on this site. The condition is good for age (see images). Width 2.5 ins (5.75cm) x height 4 ins (10cm). This item can be seen in the book, "How the Watch was Worn - A Fashion for 500 Years", on page 143.
