This is a lovely example of a dip pen most likely used by a lady and held in her own decorative writing box. The handle is of iridescent mother of pearl with multiple small knobs which may have made it easier to hold. It has a gilt holder for the nib featuring a Van Dyke pattern and the gilt nib itself is marked for John Holland, Cincinnati, Ohio. The condition is excellent for age (including the nib) and this pen would greatly enhance any collection of pens, antique writing tools or as an addition to an elegant writing box or slope. Total length 6.25 ins (16cm). Weight 4 grams.
