This is a rare and interesting brass and leather holder for multiple (twenty) sovereigns. Once opened, there is a flat surface with the initials ‘B.S.G.U’ and another rubbed mark. This platform can be slowly pushed down flattening the internal spring to allow the placement of sovereigns up to twenty in number. The case is of leather with a brass top and bottom and one of these has circular ring indentations which probably implies that it could also double as a striker for vesta matches. This would be an interesting addition to a collection of sovereign cases, coins or vestas. 1.75 ins (4.5cm) x 1 ins (2.5cm) x 3.75 ins (8cm) circumference. 34 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 228.
