This is a stunning and rare Victorian locket featuring two goldstone plaques with the front having a circular panel of fine micro mosaic flowers. It is mounted in an attractive gilt metal frame in the form of a rope with a larger loop at the top for a chain or a brooch pin. The locket opens and closes securely. Inside are two oval panels – one is covered with glass (with a few slight scratches) which could possibly be enhanced with a personal photograph and the other, also with a glass cover, shows a spray of forget-me-not. This gives a lovely sentimental feel to the piece. The overall condition is excellent for age and this would be a gorgeous item to wear or to add to a special collection of lockets. It comes in a box but it is not known whether or not this is original, but if a chain was added it could be looped over a small metal hook at the top of the velvet cover of the box. 3.25 ins (8cm) x 2.5 ins (6.5cm) x 1 ins (2.5cm). Weight 54 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 411.
