This is a very nice example of the classic cutlery box which was popular in the 19th century. This one is in good, sturdy condition with the classic sloped sides and central wider division with oval hole for carrying. There are areas of rubbing and some uneven patches on the surface of the interior (which is totally consistent with age and use), but the sides are strong. It is very usable for its original purpose or for carrying or display small objects. 14.25 ins (36cm) x 11 ins (28cm) x 3.75 ins (10cm). Weight 1682 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 86.
