Pretty Ceramic Lidded Box with Floral Themes, c1840-1860
This is a charming little ceramic lidded box for patch, snuff or as a bonbonniére. The lid and body of the box are pink with gilt scrolls and at the top of the lid is a central feature of mixed flowers. The box and lid has gilt metal fittings and the box opens to reveal a space for desired contents and on the inside of the lid and inside base have a small gilt spray of leaves. There is a mark on the base of the box which was said to be for Sevres, but it has not been possible as yet to confirm this absolutely. The condition of the box is excellent for age and it would add a nice accent of colour amongst a collection of objets de vertu. 2 ins (5cm) x 2 ins (5cm) x 1.25 ins (3.5cm). Weight 50 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 96.
