This is a very charming chatelaine purse which has been lovingly hand-made from black velvet and satin with two velvet straps passing to a disc with a velvet strap beyond to pass over a narrow belt. It is decorated with silvered beads (which could be steel as there is some slight rusting but they do not attract a standard magnet) and black beads with long decorative tassels of the silvered beads at the bottom. Along the velvet straps there are additional silvered studs. The purse opens and closes with a press stud and is lined with black satin which matches the back of the purse which is of the same black satin. The condition is very good for age although as mentioned there is some rust effect on some of the beads and some slight marks on the velvet, and there are possibly four missing studs on the main purse and a couple of small holes, but the main beading is intact. There is slight wear at the top of the purse. This would be a most delightful purse to wear as the decorative beads really catch the light, and the purse would lie flat on a gown. This would also be a lovely item to add to a collection of purses or purse chatelaines. Width of purse 5 ins (12.6cm) and total length 14.5 ins (36.5cm). It would fit a slender belt approximately 0.8 ins (2.1cm) wide or one could use a ribbon. Weight 40 grams.
