This delightful small jewelry box has the image labelled “Bethléem” on the lid under bevelled glass. The four sides are also of bevelled glass and the whole piece is set in decorative gilt metal work with four small feet. The lid has a hinge and a lifting handle which reveals the interior which has a base of distressed pale blue or grey silk (it is quite common for these linings to deteriorate with age). The lid closes securely and the whole piece presents as a charming small box for rings or tiny trinkets. 2.5 ins (7cm) x 2 ins (5cm) x 2.25 ins (6cm). Weight 156 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 411.
