Initially this presents as a plain black leatherette box but on opening one is surprised by a complete set of instruments by the renowned Helena Rubenstein & Company. The interior is lined with silk and velvet and the three tools appear to be of ivorine and sit in fitted spaces specifically for each tool. This intriguing early and complete 20th century beauty massage aid, the ‘Valize Massage Rollers’ was originally patented in Russia. The tools are accompanied by precise instructions for use that state their ability to reduce wrinkles and the signs of aging, and help many complexion ailments. The box itself has signs of wear at the corners and edges. The band holding the instructions is a little loose and the instructions have discolouration due to age but the tools appear in very good condition. It is not known whether these were really effective but why not try them out! Even if there are no results, this is an extraordinary find and would make a fascinating focal or discussion point in your home or in a salon. Box measures 8.5 ins (22cm) x 5.5 ins (14cm) x 1 ins (2.5cm). Weight 352 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 394.
