This is a rare surviving set of six enamel and gilt-metal small buttons with keepers in their original box. The box itself is of leather or leatherette and lined with velvet and silk with spaces for the buttons and the keepers. The delightful little buttons have a flower pattern in the centre with a surround of pale blue enamel. They all have their original rings at the back and the appropriate keepers are present in their fitted slot. This must have been a treasured set to have been retained all together and it is amazing that nothing has been lost. The buttons themselves are in excellent condition. The box itself is distressed at one end but still closes well and the interior nicely maintains its contents in position. Sets such as this are a must for any button collector! Box measures 4.5 ins (11cm) x 1.25 ins (3.5cm) x 0.5 ins (1.5cm). Weight 30 grams. This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 395.
