Two ceramic sweetheart figures sit atop a fitted base for removable pounce pot and inkwell. The container for the pounce pot and the inkwell feature rather stern looking masks with some slight gilding. The lovers are wearing 18th century costume. There do not appear to be any maker’s marks but it appears to be 19th century. The overall condition is excellent for age and this would be a delightful addition to a collection of writing tools with the true use of the item initially hidden from view. 6.5 ins (16cm) x 4 ins (10cm) x 5 ins (13cm). Weight 874 grams.
This item appears in my book, “Antique Boxes, Inside and Out” on page 347.
Insured Air Mail Post with tracking to the USA would be $55.00 USD - with no tracking is cheaper. For shipping cost to other countries, please contact us.
